Marketing for Higher Education SIG is pleased to offer a variety of calls for awards, grants, and special sessions. Please review the following opportunities:

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

2025 Call for Nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award

 

The Marketing for Higher Education Special Interest Group (Higher Ed SIG) welcomes applications for the Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honors a marketing scholar who has demonstrated distinct accomplishments and dedication to the area of higher education in the marketing discipline. Nominees (self-nominees welcomed) must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a tenured marketing faculty member in good standing at an AACSB accredited university.

  • Demonstrate commitment and achievements related to improving higher education in marketing.

  • Be a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) at the time of application.

 

Applications must be in one pdf document including:

  1. Cover letter as to why the nominee would be an ideal recipient of the award.

  2. Current curriculum vitae.

 

All applications will be evaluated by a panel of three (3) marketing scholar judges and must be received by Friday, May 31, 2025 at 5:00 PM EST. To apply, please email one pdf document to sig.highered@gmail.com.

The winner will receive a plaque at the AMA Summer Educators’ Conference. The winner will be notified by early July and should join the HigherEd SIG if not a current member (SIG membership is free for AMA members). The winner will also be invited to the HigherEd SIG dinner reception at the AMA Summer Conference.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
MARKETING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION SIG SERVICE AWARD

This award recognizes an officer of the AMA Marketing for HigherEd SIG who has demonstrated distinct contributions and dedication to the SIG and served as a SIG officer for 5 or more years. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be an AMA and Marketing for HigherEd SIG member. 

  • Be a Marketing for HigherEd SIG officer with an active role. 

  • Demonstrated important contributions to the Marketing for HigherEd SIG. 

  • Served as a Marketing for HigherEd SIG officer for 5+ years. 
     

Please send your nominations for the Marketing for HigherEd SIG Service Award 2025 to Divya (Divya.Ramachandran@umanitoba.ca) by May 31st. In your nomination email, please include the following details: 

  • The name of the individual nominated for this award.

  • The year in which you (i.e., the individual nominating an award recipient) joined AMA Marketing for HigherEd SIG.

  • May also include a short, optional statement describing why the nominee would be an ideal recipient of the award.  

 

The recipient will be awarded a plaque at the Marketing for HigherEd SIG dinner reception/awards ceremony during the Summer AMA conference in recognition of their service and contributions to AMA Marketing for HigherEd SIG. 

CALL FOR PAPERS
AMA SPECIAL SESSION ON DOCTORAL STUDENT RESEARCH

The Marketing for Higher Education SIG would like to call for submissions for a special research session focusing on doctoral student research in consumer behavior at the 2025 Winter AMA Virtual Conference. Submissions will be blind-reviewed and the authors will be notified whether their paper will be included in the special session by December. The best paper will receive an award from the HigherEd SIG at the Winter AMA conference.

 

The overall theme and specific topics of this special session are in line with a forthcoming CFP for a special issue by the Journal of Consumer Behaviour, an A-level journal according to ABDC journal rankings.

 

Papers accepted for the special research session must be presented during the Winter AMA Virtual Conference and will be published as extended abstracts in the conference proceedings.

 

Journal of Consumer Behaviour editor(s) and special issue co-editor(s) will attend the HigherEd SIG special research session and provide feedback to presenting authors at Winter AMA. Moreover, the top papers will be invited for consideration in the special issue of the Journal of Consumer Behaviour.

DOCTORAL STUDENT GRANTS
AMA CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE

The Marketing for Higher Education Special Interest Group (Higher Ed SIG) is pleased to announce doctoral student grant opportunities.


The SIG will offer several grants that include:

(1) one-year American Marketing Association (AMA) membership and

(2) one early bird registration for the AMA Summer Educators’ Conference.

 

Additional grants may be offered subject to budget approval.
Applicants must be:

  • a current doctoral student enrolled in an AACSB-accredited PhD program in marketing or business administration-marketing, and

  • able to provide proof of acceptance of a poster or competitive paper for presentation at the AMA Summer Educators’ Conference.

  • a current member of Marketing for Higher Ed SIG. If not a current member, must join the SIG before the end of June to receive the grant. (SIG membership is free for AMA members).

Applications must be in one pdf document including:

  1. Cover letter as to why the applicant would be an ideal recipient of the grant.

  2. Current curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and conference presentations.

  3. Proof of acceptance of the poster/competitive paper.

All applications will be evaluated by the Higher Ed SIG Executive Board and must be received by June 1 at 5:00 PM EST.

DOCTORAL STUDENT
RESEARCH GRANTS

The Marketing for Higher Education Special Interest Group (HigherEd SIG) is pleased to announce doctoral student research grant opportunities in 2024.


The SIG will offer up to five (5) grants that include up to $500 funding to support doctoral student research for purposes such as, but not limited to, dataset purchase and data collection, transcribing interviews, and purchasing software. The grant will not fund expenses such as conference registration or hardware purchases. Additional grants may be offered subject to budget approval.

Applicants must be:
•    a current doctoral student enrolled in an AACSB accredited PhD program in marketing or business administration-marketing.
•    able to provide evidence for prior research/scholarly performance and an outline for how the grant will support current research endeavors. 
•    a current member of Higher Ed SIG. (SIG membership is free for all AMA members. To add a SIG to your membership profile, fill out this form to send your SIG sections to AMA Customer Support team, and they will be able to add the SIG designation to your membership).

 

Applications must include the following:
1.    Three-page summary of the research project for which the funds will be used, providing a summary of the project, discussing data requirements for the project, explaining the expected theoretical and managerial contributions of the work, and a detailed budget justification indicating how the grant will be used.
2.    Current curriculum vitae, including a list of publications and conference presentations.
3.    Letter of support from the doctoral student’s supervisor.
To apply, please send all required document to sig.highered@gmail.com. Each application should have two attachments: 1) one PDF including a current CV and the letter of support from the supervisor, and 2) one PDF including the two-page research project summary. 
Note that the cover letter and three-page summary should not list the applicants’ affiliation. Affiliation information should be included in the CV only. Incomplete applications or applications that share the affiliation information in cover letter and one-page summary will not be reviewed.


All applications must be received by November 29, 2024 at 5:00 PM EST. Applications will be evaluated by a judging committee blind to applicants’ university affiliations. Winners will be notified by late January. 


Once an application is awarded the grant, the following information should be provided to Jackie Eastman (jeastman@fgcu.edu) in order to disburse the funds.
1.    Recipient Name
2.    Purpose of Purchase
3.    Recipient Email
4.    Recipient's Bank Name
5.    Recipient's Routing Number and Account Number (or SWIFT Code for Outside the US)
